Thank you for your presentation last Monday in SRC. We're from Pensacola and our Supervisor of Elections is touted as the "gold standard" but in many ways has not been open or willing to consider some of the changes that were discussed. I thought it interesting that a comment from a member of the audience was that it's the county commissioners that need to be educated and approached - not just the Supervisor of Elections.
One thing I had wanted to say but wasn't able to, was that people need to realize that they are up against a system - an established local bureaucracy - that knows how to disregard public opinion. It's not that the people are evil (although we know the forces of evil are involved in destroying our country), rather they are part of a system that does not look kindly on change but supports the status quo and efforts to change it will be met with resistance that they use to stop it.
Rule #1 is - ignore it and it will go away. Any of us who want to penetrate the current system must not only be organized but persistent and determined to get the changes done. A group of people showing up is not as effective as a group of committed, dedicated, informed people who are willing to hang on like pit bulls because the one thing I've know about our present system is that they system knows that "time is on their side" and they play with that always in mind. Look at McCarthy, he played the game long enough to get secure in his position before he showed his true, backstabbing qualities. He's a soft spoken liar whose demeanor makes him seems less dangerous than those who are louder, which makes him even more dangerous to our cause.
All that said, I plan to review and try to better understand what you presented (I am NOT a numbers person - in fact, my daughters and I see ourselves as "numbers retarded." It just doesn't stick). I want to be able to call my commissioner and make sense not just complain.
