My previous audio podcast talked about an idea some Florida counties are experimenting with. Because of the time left on the clock, we want to share it before we know for sure how it is working. From what we have seen so far, it looks promising.
Some brilliant locals started talking to their county sheriff and turned out they were able to get a list of ICE Detainees with names, DOBs, and addresses which they in turn were able to use The People’s Audit to find out if they were also registered to vote.
ICE Detainees have been fully investigated by local law enforcement and have been found to be in the country illegally. Although probably a small fraction of the non-citizens that may be on your county rolls, this may be a way of uncovering if this is a larger problem. We don’t know till we try.
In my podcast, I recommend going in face to face to build relationships with both your local Sheriff to see if they willingly give you this information. But it was pointed out to me that meeting with the Sheriff in some of the larger counties is next to impossible, so someone crafted a request for information.
This template is fashioned for Florida because it references our state laws, but you should be able to use it to jump-start an email for your state.

RE: Public Records Request for Illegal Alien Detainers
Dear Sheriff’s Office and Central Records Division,
As a member of several state and federal election integrity research teams, I am requesting the following illegal alien ICE Detainers:
2022 – List of names, DOB, and addresses of all illegal aliens placed on ICE Detainers
2023 – List of names, DOB, and addresses of all illegal aliens placed on ICE Detainers
2024 – List of names, DOB, and addresses of all illegal aliens placed on ICE Detainers
The reason for this request is to assist the {{COUNTY}} County Supervisor of Elections office with all information that would assist in cleaning up the voter roles in {{COUNTY}} County. This request is made under the Florida Statutes Chapter 119 Public Records 119.01, 119.035, and 119.10.
I request a waiver of all fees for this request since the disclosure of the information I seek is not primarily in my commercial interest and is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations or activities of the government, making the disclosure a matter of public interest. Election Integrity is what we are all striving for, and our actions will save the county tax dollars since we are all member volunteers.
Should you deny my request, or any part of the request, please state in writing the basis for the denial, including the exact statutory citation authorizing the denial as required by s. 119.07(1)(d), F.S.
If you have any questions, please contact me at {{PHONE}} or my email address {{EMAIL}}.
Respectfully submitted,

The ICE Detainees may represent the most violent of criminals and again would be a tiny portion of the non-citizens who have registered to vote. But so far this has been a great way to connect with your local Sheriff and as citizens offer to build bridges between their office and the local elections officials.
Those connections should lay a foundation for greater communications with your local officials and give you direct experience into their nature and if they seem committed to solving this problem in your local communities.
Be sure to comment if you have any experience trying this out.
Thanks for this, Kris. With minor modifications, this will should work for every state. Great thinking.
